NMSAP Smart Meetings 2022

Registration: $50 for public/$40 for NAP members

Concurrent sessions are offered. All courses are appropriate to any level of experience and are presented by NMSAP members, in accordance with Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised, 12th Edition.

PROGRAM
      8:30 – 9:30 Session 1:

     Course A:      "Ranking Motions"                   Tanya "Tan" Johnson, PRP

You might be amazed  that there is an order to dispose of motions.  This workshop will cover the order  and disposing of motions.  Learn how to make motions going up the ladder and disposing of motions going down the ladder. 

     Course B:      "Motions Have Character: a Discussion on the Characteristics of Motions"     Valoree Althoff, CPP-T, PRP       

Each of the 13 ranking motions in the ladder of motions have characteristics: interrupting, second, vote required, etc. Feel more confident in your memory recall of the motion characteristics. 

  • 9:40 – 10:40 Session 2:

     Course A:     "Amendments"                           Lucy Anderson, CP-T, PRP

     Course B:      "Incidental Motions"                 Mark Apodaca, PRP

Incidental motions deal with questions of procedure.  The more than nine incidental motions will help your group make decisions and decide how to proceed.

  • 10:50 – 11:50 Session 3:

     Course A:     "Bring Back Motions: It's Okay to Change Your Mind"         Adam Hathaway, PRP

There are times when an organization chooses to modify or cancel a decision previously made. This session will explain the different methods and opportunities to bring a motion again before an assembly.

   Course B:     "When Good Motions Go Bad: a Look at Dilatory and Improper Motions"

Dilatory or improper motions can obstruct and slow business before the assembly. Be able to identify dilatory and improper motions and learn how to handle them.
